“Retired, not expired! The motto of the BFT/R. There is life after retirement, but one of the things we do not want you to do is lose your union connection. We meet once a month and have great programs, run a workshop to help you plan for your retirement, and when you actually do so, we host a breakfast to honor you. Staying connected keeps all of your union benefits in working order. “OK – so what is all of this going to cost”, you ask. Do we have a deal for you! Our local dues are $30.00 plus $36.00 FEA/NEA per caps that we send to Tallahassee – grand total of $66.00 a year."
Those per caps give you added benefits from FEA/NEA as supporting FEA’s position as the watchdog of our state legislature, while AFT and NEA keep an eye on the Federal sector. We are all aware that these legislative bodies are chock full of educational experts, as they all went to school.
There is a way to offset that possibility. You automatically have a lifetime membership in AFT; NEA traditionally offers their members the opportunity to do a pre-retirement plan and lifetime membership in FEA is brand new. The advantage of taking out a lifetime membership is that you will never have to pay yearly per caps, no matter how much they are.
