2007-08 Bargaining Update

11-6-07 - WE HAVE A CONTRACT! At the Table
11-1-07 - Impasse Hearing at Viera - Anne's opening statement. Special Magistrate will contact the union and board when a decision has been rendered.
10-16-07 - AT the Table - We still do not have a contract. Negotiations ceased at 5:45 PM. No new date or time has been set to resume talks.
10-11-07 - Next bargaining session - Cape View Elementary 4:00 PM
9-17-07 - Next bargaining session at Cape View Elementary beginning at 9:00 AM. No contract yet!
9-13-07 - No contract yet!
8-17-07 Bargaining Session - Update below

Union says district needs to find more money for salary.
District agrees to extend email language until a contract has been settled.
Discussed situation with elementary PE mandate.
Agreed to rename the Supplementary Salary Schedule to Differentiated Pay Schedule to meet legislative mandate.
Discussed changes in the Tuition Reimbursement Program.
Discussed new Domestic Violence Law - agreed no teacher's job would be in jeopardy because of a domestic violence issue.
District suggested teachers are not working their entire contact. Union response was that the district's position was offensive and broke-off negotiations for today. No further negotiation dates have been set for this time.

BFT and District Opening Statements and Issues - 7-27-07

The next bargaining date is Friday, July 27, 2007 in Viera. The meeting will be from 2-4 PM in training rooms 7 & 8. Both teams will be discussing issues. No money items will be brought up at this time.

On June 25, 2007 both teams met for a retraining session in the Interest-based Collaborative model of bargaining. All new bargaining members from both teams were present.

On June 22, 2007 the bargaining teams met for a presentation on the proposed school board budget for 2007-08. BFT will remain vigilant in pursuing much needed improvements in the salary schedule and benefits.
